Colors and Rainbows

๐ŸŽฏ Learning objectives

After this article, you should be able to:

  • Name the main colors
  • Order the colors of the rainbow
  • Mix primary colors to make new ones

Look around you โ€” the world is full of colour! ๐ŸŒˆ

The main colors

  • ๐Ÿ”ด Red โ€” apples, fire trucks, roses.
  • ๐ŸŸ  Orange โ€” oranges (of course!), carrots, sunsets.
  • ๐ŸŸก Yellow โ€” the sun, bananas, baby chicks.
  • ๐ŸŸข Green โ€” grass, frogs, broccoli.
  • ๐Ÿ”ต Blue โ€” the sky, the sea, blueberries.
  • ๐ŸŸฃ Purple โ€” grapes, plums, lavender.

The rainbow song

Red and orange, yellow, green โ€” blue and purple in between. When the sun and rain both play, a rainbow comes to save the day!

Color magic: mixing

  • Red + Yellow = Orange
  • Blue + Yellow = Green
  • Red + Blue = Purple

Try it with paints or crayons โ€” mixing colors feels like a magic trick!

Why are there rainbows?

When sunlight passes through raindrops, the light bends and splits into all its colors โ€” red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. That bending is why we see the colorful arc in the sky.

Play with colors in the color matching game!
